TL;DR
- Charisma University (Charisma on Command) is self-paced and beginner-friendly. See their site for enrollment options. Reviewers say much of it repeats free YouTube material.
- X-Factor Accelerator (Art of Charm) is a 90-day program. It includes a 1:1 onboarding call with Johnny and weekly group coaching (Tuesdays, 7 PM ET).
- Toastmasters is the simplest way to get real speaking reps.
- SocialSelf and Dale Carnegie are the other serious options, with different formats.

What is Charisma University?
Charisma University is the course from Charisma on Command. The course page has current enrollment options. It is self-paced, includes a community.
Reviewers in r/CharismaOnCommand call it beginner-friendly. They also say it mostly organizes material that’s already on the free YouTube channel.
That isn’t a knock. Having scattered free content put in order is a legitimate choice. You should just know that’s what you’re getting.

What is the X-Factor Accelerator?
The X-Factor Accelerator is Art of Charm’s 90-day program. See the program page.
Art of Charm began as a podcast and coaching company in the late 2000s and has 12,500+ alumni. Our legacy in-person bootcamp no longer runs.
We’ve also had public criticism. A 2024 r/socialskills post said the paid content wasn’t worth it. Older reviews called some academy content dated. Those complaints are fair to raise, and you should read them before you buy anything from us or anyone else.
For more context on the company beyond this comparison, our broader review of Art of Charm gathers criticisms and alternatives.
Charisma University vs X-Factor Accelerator: which one fits you?
Here is the plain version.
Charisma University is the better pick if:
- You want a lighter commitment.
- You want to go at your own pace.
- You’re new to this and want a gentle, structured start.
The X-Factor Accelerator is worth a look if:
- You want a defined 90-day run rather than an open-ended course.
- You’re ready for a bigger commitment.
- You’ve already tried free content and want something more committed.
If commitment level is the deciding factor, compare the enrollment details on each site. If you want a fixed 90-day program, look at the XFA page and judge for yourself.
Is SocialSelf a better fit than either?
Maybe. SocialSelf was founded by David Morin in 2012. Its Social Skills Accelerator runs three months and includes three live coaching sessions per week and five course programs with lifetime access. See their site for current enrollment details.
SocialSelf also sells Self-Conscious to Confident, aimed at people dealing with self-consciousness.
Trustpilot reviews are mostly positive. Some reviewers call it too basic for them.
If your main problem is social anxiety, SocialSelf’s focus on that may suit you better than a charisma-first course.

Is Toastmasters enough on its own?
For many people, yes. Toastmasters is one of the simplest structured options here. Clubs are peer-led and include prepared speaking, impromptu speaking and peer evaluations. Guests can visit for free before joining.
It beats every other option here on speaking reps. What it doesn’t give you is a structured curriculum for conversation, social confidence or influence one-on-one. It also depends on the quality of your local club.
A sensible combo is Toastmasters for reps plus one course for structure.
See our Dale Carnegie vs Toastmasters comparison for more context.
What about Dale Carnegie?
Dale Carnegie courses are instructor-led over several weeks, and details are set by local franchises. See their site for information in your area. The instructor-led classroom format is a bigger commitment than peer-led or self-paced options.
It’s strongest for working professionals, especially if an employer might sponsor it. For an individual without employer support, it is a bigger commitment than most options above.
How do you choose between them?
Ask three questions:
- How much commitment do I want? Lighter commitment points to Toastmasters or Charisma University. Bigger commitments open SocialSelf, Dale Carnegie and the XFA.
- What’s my actual problem? Anxiety, public speaking, general charisma and professional influence each point to a different option above.
- How do I learn? Self-paced courses need discipline. Live or time-boxed programs add structure.
Don’t buy anything before you’ve watched the free material. Most providers here, including us, publish plenty.
