What should you look for in a dating coach?
There’s no standard format. “Dating coach” covers everything from low-commitment peer-led clubs to multi-week instructor-led courses to in-person bootcamps. What fits depends on the format, how much live coaching you get, and how long the program runs.
Below are the options we compared, showing what sets each apart.
| Option | Format | What sets it apart | Best for |
|---|
| Toastmasters | Peer-led clubs | Peer-led, guests visit free | Low-commitment, steady speaking practice |
| Charisma University | Self-paced, community | Self-paced with community | Beginners who like self-study |
| SocialSelf Self-Conscious to Confident | Course | Self-paced course | Confidence and anxiety |
| SocialSelf Social Skills Accelerator | 3 months, live sessions | Three live sessions per week | Wanting live coaching |
| Dale Carnegie Course | Instructor-led, several weeks | Instructor-led classroom | Professional communication |
| The Attractive Man bootcamps | In person | In-person bootcamp | Hands-on cold-approach practice |
| X-Factor Accelerator | 90 days, 1:1 onboarding call, weekly group coaching | 90-day program with live coaching | Structured, longer-term change |

Who is Charisma University for?
Charisma on Command’s Charisma University is self-paced and includes a community. See their site for current enrollment options.
Reviewers on r/CharismaOnCommand call it beginner-friendly. Some also say it mostly organizes material you can find on the free YouTube channel.
Best for: people who like self-study and want structure without a big commitment. If you’ll happily watch free videos and organize them yourself, you may not need a course at all.

What does SocialSelf offer?
SocialSelf was founded by David Morin in 2012. Its Social Skills Accelerator runs three months and includes three live coaching sessions per week and five course programs with lifetime access. The live coaching sessions are the main differentiator.
The Self-Conscious to Confident course is a more focused option.
Trustpilot reviews are mostly positive. Some reviewers call it too basic for them. See their site for current enrollment details.
Best for: people whose main obstacle is self-consciousness or social anxiety, and who want live sessions.

Is Toastmasters a good low-commitment alternative?
Often, yes. Toastmasters is a peer-led club, with prepared and impromptu speaking and peer evaluations. Guests can visit free.
It isn’t dating-specific. It builds the speaking, storytelling and composure that carry into conversation, and it gives you regular reps in the simplest structured format in this comparison.
Best for: anyone who wants low-commitment practice and honest peer feedback. On simplicity alone, it beats every other option here.

Who is the Dale Carnegie Course for?
The Dale Carnegie Course is instructor-led over several weeks. Local franchises run their own sessions. See the official site for details in your area.
It’s built around professional communication, not dating.
Best for: people who want a classroom format and a communication skill set that applies at work too, especially if it’s relevant to your job.
Is a dating bootcamp worth it?
In-person bootcamps offer immersion and hands-on practice. The Attractive Man runs the Natural Attraction Bootcamp, which includes cold-approach practice. Contact them directly for current schedules and enrollment details.
Love Systems historically sold 3-day in-person bootcamps, and reviews are mixed. Real Social Dynamics is reported to no longer sell pickup courses.
Art of Charm’s legacy in-person bootcamp no longer runs either.
Best for bootcamps: people who learn fastest by doing, and who want someone beside them while they approach in real settings. If that’s you, an in-person bootcamp can beat any online program, including ours.
Is a dating coach worth it?
It depends on what’s holding you back.
A coach or program is more likely to be worth it if:
- You know what to do but don’t do it, and you need structure or accountability.
- You want feedback on how you come across.
- You’ll actually put in the practice. No program replaces that.
It’s probably not worth it if:
- You mainly need information. Free content and a low-commitment course cover a lot.
- You want a quick fix. Social skill is built over weeks, not a weekend.
- You haven’t tried free practice yet, like a Toastmasters visit.
Paid programs, including ours, draw criticism too. A 2024 post on r/socialskills said Art of Charm’s paid content wasn’t worth it, and some older reviews called parts of the academy content dated. That’s fair feedback, and it’s why we’d suggest comparing options before you buy.
Where does Art of Charm fit?
Art of Charm began as a podcast and coaching company in the 2007 era and has 12,500+ alumni. It was co-founded by me, AJ Harbinger.
Our current flagship is X-Factor Accelerator (XFA), a 90-day program. It’s built for people who want a longer, structured path instead of a one-off course or weekend. It’s a bigger commitment than a club, and Toastmasters wins on simplicity.

If you’ve compared the options and want a structured 90 days, look at X-Factor Accelerator. It includes a 1:1 onboarding call with Johnny and weekly group coaching (Tuesdays, 7 PM ET).
