TL;DR
- Art of Charm (AOC) is a real company: a podcast and coaching business dating to around 2007, with 12,500+ alumni.
- The old in-person bootcamp no longer runs. Our current flagship is the 90-day X-Factor Accelerator.
- I’m AJ Harbinger, an AOC co-founder, so I’m biased. I’ve tried to be fair anyway, including about where other options beat us.
- Simplest route: Toastmasters. Self-paced: Charisma on Command. Live weekly coaching: SocialSelf. Classroom format: Dale Carnegie.
Is Art of Charm legit?
Yes, it’s a real business with a long track record. AOC started as a podcast and coaching company, and 12,500+ people have gone through our programs.
Legit doesn’t mean right for everyone. Criticism is public. A 2024 post on r/socialskills said the paid content wasn’t worth it. Older reviews called some academy content dated. Those are fair things to weigh, and you should read the threads yourself.
What does the Art of Charm Reddit crowd say?
Mixed, and that’s normal for any personal-development brand. Reddit tends to favor free resources, and people who feel a program didn’t deliver are more likely to post than people who were quietly satisfied.
My advice is to look for specifics. Ask what the person wanted, what they bought, and when. A review of a years-old product tells you little about what’s sold today.
Is there an Art of Charm bootcamp review I can trust?
Not really, because the legacy in-person bootcamp no longer runs. Any bootcamp review you find describes a format we’ve retired.
Today’s flagship is the X-Factor Accelerator (XFA), a 90-day program with a 1:1 onboarding call, weekly group coaching with Johnny. See the program page for what’s included.

Is Charisma on Command a better fit?
For many beginners, possibly. Charisma University is self-paced, includes a community. See their site for enrollment options.
Reviewers on r/CharismaOnCommand call it beginner-friendly. Some also say it mostly structures material that’s already on their free YouTube channel. If you like learning from video at your own pace, that’s a plus. You can try the free content first and decide whether the structure is worth it for you.

What about SocialSelf?
SocialSelf was founded in 2012 by David Morin. Its Social Skills Accelerator runs three months and includes three live coaching sessions per week and five course programs with lifetime access. See their site for current enrollment details.
If live weekly sessions are your priority, that’s a strong offer. For social anxiety specifically, there’s also Self-Conscious to Confident.
Trustpilot reviews are mostly positive. Some reviewers call it too basic for them.

Is Toastmasters enough on its own?
For public speaking, often yes. Toastmasters is a peer-led club. It’s one of the simplest structured options. Clubs are peer-led, with prepared and impromptu speaking and peer evaluations. Guests can visit for free.
It’s the lower-commitment option by a wide margin. It’s narrower, though. It trains speaking, not dating, networking or broader social dynamics, and quality depends on your local club.
See our Dale Carnegie vs Toastmasters comparison.
When does Dale Carnegie make sense?
If you want a classroom and an instructor. The Dale Carnegie Course is instructor-led over several weeks. See the official site for details in your area.
It suits professionals who prefer a formal setting.
What about dating bootcamps like The Attractive Man and Love Systems?
These are a different category: in-person, hands-on practice.
- The Attractive Man runs in-person dating bootcamps, such as the Natural Attraction Bootcamp, with cold-approach practice. See its live training page for details.
- Love Systems historically sold 3-day in-person bootcamps, and reviews are mixed.
- Real Social Dynamics is reported to no longer sell pickup courses.
If you want field practice with an instructor beside you, these fit better than a program like ours.

So, is Art of Charm worth it?
It depends on three things:
- Commitment. If you want something low-commitment, start with Toastmasters or Charisma on Command.
- Format. Want live weekly sessions? Look at SocialSelf. Want a classroom? Dale Carnegie. Want in-person dating practice? The Attractive Man.
- Goal. A narrow goal like public speaking is often better served by a narrow tool.
If you want a structured 90-day program built around charisma, confidence and influence, the X-Factor Accelerator is worth a look.
