5 Simple Tricks to Build Self Esteem

Is your self-esteem holding you back? In your social, personal and professional life? If so, you’re not alone. But what if we told you that there were some simple ways to improve your self-esteem, starting today? Sound too good to be true? It’s not. Here are five simple ways you can start building self-esteem.

Posture

It’s a curious fact of science: Standing up straight increases your self-esteem. So practice your posture. Go stand in the mirror and pretend that a string is pulling you up while a magnet pulls you down. Stand up straight and remember what this feels like. Now try and stand up straighter throughout the course of the week. It’s time and energy well spent, and it’s honestly one of the most effective ways to improve self-esteem.

Smile

Smiling doesn’t just increase your self-esteem by working with the inside of your brain. It also has other people see you as confident. This in turn makes you feel more confident, which is going to boost your self-esteem. Your homework for tonight is to work on your posture, then work on your smile, then head out to your favorite spot and notice just how much better you feel and how differently people treat you.

Exercise

It’s less optional the older you get. However, it’s also one of the best ways to improve self-esteem. You’re going to start feeling better about yourself because you’re doing things that you once thought you could never do. You’re going to have improved self-esteem because of how you look when you see yourself. But more than that — feeling better about yourself when you exercise is just something your brain does.

Learn a New Skill

Nothing builds confidence quite like learning a new skill. So pick that thing that you’ve always wanted to learn and start learning it. Community colleges, extension schools and even self-help books exist precisely so that guys like you can start learning new skills and putting them into practice. Put your mind to it and start making it happen. Even when you struggle, you can remember that you’re doing everything you can to better yourself and enrich your life.

Affirmations

A lot of guys are skeptical about affirmations, but that’s just because they don’t know the right way to form them. Basically, rather than wishful thinking, affirmations are way that we remind ourselves to take action. Ask yourself why you want what you want. Then, when you need a little encouragement, remind yourself of the thing that you’re really hoping to achieve. That will spur your on, reminding you of why you need to take action when times are tough. And nothing’s going to help your self-esteem quite like that.
