Profiles of Success #5 | Adam Mabbott

Adam Mabbott is one of our newest graduates, having completed Bootcamp in November of 2016. He had been listening to the podcast for some time, practicing techniques taught there, and marveling at the results. He wanted to take things to the next level.

Our new Profiles of Success series highlights the stories of the men and women who attend our AoC Bootcamp or partake of our other programs. Sometimes we forget just how life-changing our courses can be. These stories remind us and, we hope, will inform and inspire you.

“The AoC program gave me the tools to understand and blast away insecurities, the clarity to be present in my relationships, and the permission to be genuine and authentic.” -Adam Mabbott

Bootcamp Video Work

That next level started on the very first day. Apart from the fundamentals of smile, posture, energy, etc., Adam can still recall the anxiety he felt during the video work. “It was a huge eye opener to see what my body language communicated to others,” says Adam. “You’re put under a spotlight, and man, if you have any insecurities, they are going to be exposed. It’s painful but absolutely necessary.”

Adam also really enjoyed the improv work later in the week. He noted that it gave him the tools to get out of his own head and to allow himself to just be silly. “It’s not about what you say,” he noted, “it’s how you say it and how you make the other person feel in the interaction.”

By the end of training he was a bit sad to leave his fellow classmates and the intensity of the training, but he was also excited to get home to his kids and put his two biggest takeaways from training to work immediately:

  • Listening. Really listening rather than imitating listening.
  • Thinking rationally and in a healthy manner instead of being anxious or referring to a script.

After AoC

Before training, family and friends were generally indifferent, though Adam’s business partner was extremely supportive. Those who had watched his transformation over the past two years (from first listening to the podcast and starting his process of improvement) remained moderately curious but reserved, whereas those who he had not seen for more than two years would often say, “he’s a totally different person.”

“Bootcamp definitely changed my life,” Adam says. “The transformative process is amazing, and I am so happy to have been both the initiator and beneficiary of the change. In all aspects of my life I have a substantially better grasp on how to manage and deepen my existing relationships and to create new relationships that start on a healthy platform. As the owner of my own business, I have been able to bring a positive attitude that promotes support and abundance with my team. Maintaining frames and understanding how frames dissolve each other has been a very positive step in fostering an outgoing and confident version of myself that is not looking for validation.

“If I could tell someone why they should attend, I’d tell them that you will have unmatched social confidence after coming to AoC.”
